Characteristics
PUMICE® is an ash colored natural soil improver made by grinding, drying and adjusting porous igneous rock.
It produces soil with excellent water retention, water drainage and heat insulation.
- Water retention: PUMICE® retains water for a long time. Blending it with arid soil is effective against drying.
- Drainage: The pores are continuous and easily drain off excessive water.
- Aeration: PUMICE® emits CO2 resulting from respiration of the roots, by supplying oxygen around them.
- Heat insulation: Since the pores of PUMICE® are constantly filled with water or air, it weakens the effects of temperature changes on the soil.
- Prevention of agglomeration: PUMICE® is resistant to pressure and is not easily powdered. Therefore it prevents agglomeration of soil, which inhibits gas and water permeation.
- Immobilization of microorganisms: Microorganisms in soil are immobilized, as the pore diameter is suitable as a habitat for microorganisms and the large surface area ensures high aeration.
- Neutrality: PUMICE® is a neutral lightweight soil improver with a pH value of 0.7

Typical applications:
- Lawns: Blend PUMICE® extra small grains, peatmoss and granite soil at 3:3:4.
- Flowers, perennial plants and flowering trees/shrubs: Place large-grain PUMICE® at the bottom, followed by blended soil consisting of small-grain PUMICE®, peatmoss and granite soil.
- Cacti: Use only small-grain PUMICE® to grow cacti. The fertilizer should be liquid manure.
- Raising of seedlings, sowing: Blend PUMICE® extra-small grains, peatmoss and granite soil at 4:3:3.
